I went to see the Trans-Siberian Orchestra's performance of The Lost Christmas Eve in Hartford tonight with a small crew.  We went to CTcon-favorite Burger Baby for dinner beforehand.  The Lost Christmas Eve was different than in previous years - no drawn out rendition of An Old City Bar this time!  Nightcastle was amazing!  When Carmina Burana played I nearly lost my shit!  Unfortunately, my phone was being stupid and would video record.  Still, it was amazing to hear it performed live again after all these years!

I'm watching Volume 1 of RWBY!

Wednesday, 20 November 2013:

I read a bunch of Batman Incorporated and Batgirl issues for New Comics Wednesday.  I also got a new Catwoman figurine!

I'm watching Aquarion Evol for MangAnime Tuesday.  It's even more like Neon Genesis: Evangelion light than the last one.  The commander even looks like Gendo and is voiced by the same guy who plays Gendo in the Rebuild of Evangelion movies!  Three out of five awkward, horny, teenage mecha pilots!

I'm watching Genesis of Aquarion for MangAnime Tuesday.  It's kind of like Neon Genesis: Evangelion light.  But still a better than average mecha.  Three out of five Greek mythology references.

I just finished reading Batman Beyond (Volume 5): 10,000 Clowns.  Up until now, I haven't really been a big fan of the Batman Beyond comics.  I love the television series, but I never considered the quality of any of the comics to be better than okay.  But 10,000 Clowns could very well be the best comic arc that I've read all year!  The stakes in this story are extremely high, not just for Gotham but for all of the characters as well.  Yet, unlike The Dark Knight Rises, the plot to "destroy Gotham" never reaches absurd levels of complication despite so much being at stake.  The story and dialogue are a lot more adult in nature.  That being said, it never seems like a deviation from the spirit of the original series or forced.  When Dick says to the Joker King, "teach me, you sick bastard," it doesn't seem like the authors are trying to push the boundaries of what's acceptable in the BB franchise.  On the contrary, it's used to communicate his fury and revulsion over the fact that thousands have been murdered by the Joker King's terrorist attacks.

The character plots are all very natural and Dana's character is finally flushed out in a very deep and meaningful way.  It's also great to see Bruce, Dick, Tim, and Barbara all actively participating in the same story arc again!  My favorite Bruce Wayne line of all time, "A joker.  Thank you, God.  If I'm going  out, I get to take one of you with me."

Five out of five beat up Jokerz!

I also got a chance to play some Batman: Arkham City tonight and made it up to the battle with Mr. Freeze.  He killed me about four or five times so I got frustrated and played Ascendancy instead.

It was good. It was really, really good. Aside from the introductory exposition and too many Loki-tells, it was way, way better than
I expected going in! Even the Borg Queen shows up!

Fun geek fact: in the comics, the Collector had prophetic abilities, which allowed him to foresee the coming of Thanos and the destruction
he would bring. In response, the Collector created a massive museum of countless life forms and rare artifacts to keep them safe. He eventually
came into possession of one of the six Infinity Gems, until Thanos took it from him.

...just saying.

Trying to catch up with The New 52.
Tuesday, 05 November 2013:

I'm watching the last few episodes of Binbō-gami ga! (Good Luck Girl!) and then beginning Maken-ki!

Good Luck Girl! is very good.  The characters are well developed and the humor is amazingly bizarre!  I particularly liked the constant breaking of the fourth wall and satirizing of anime cliches.
It gets four bipolar poverty gods out of five!

Maken-ki! is okay.  Mostly the typical, ecchi, warrior, high school girls with super-gratuitous amounts of panty-butts, teenage cameltoe, and impossibly humongous boobs as magical girls battle one another. That while idiot-boys constantly slobber all over them.
Two accidental trip-grope scenes out of five.

I'm watching Highschool of the Dead: Drifters of the Dead for MangAnime Tuesday!
